Lord's Day

Do you "live for the weekend?"

Christians may rightly call Sunday the Lord's Day, a day set apart for sacred purposes. The first day of the week is a day distinguished in the New Testament by:

Event - the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb...He is not here; for He is risen, as He said

Matthew 28:1,6

Example - the practice of the early church.

And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them...

Acts 20:7

Teaching - the command to gather and give.

Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him...

1 Corinthians 16:2

Designation - the day belonging to the Lord.

I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last...
